The ‘Out of the Blue’ journey
Growing up in small town Australia afforded me the delights and freedom to roam freely with neighbourhood friends. We'd venture down to the river, build dens and spend as much time as humanly possible in the great outdoors. Growing up, going to University and working my first Interior Design job in Adelaide I still savoured the great outdoors, succumbing as often as I could, to the wide open skies, smells of the sea, rustle of the dense bush and delights of the hills and wine regions. Still today, when I return home to see family and friends, those big open skies, bleached summer days and distinctly Australian sounds and smells are the the parts of my country I miss most when adventuring across the seas.
Today I’m lucky enough to call the marvelous city of London home, and for the last 20 years have spent my days working in the world of commercial Interior Design, designing and delivering, working with my clients and team's to deliver spaces that go beyond what our clients first thought possible. It is, as ever a fine balance between, functionality, good aesthetic, mixed with seamless technology, with people always at the heart of every design.
The desire to see the world was a dream for as long as I can remember, inspired by a mother who still today, has been to more countries than all her children put together, an adventurous father, who loved nothing better than to get out in to the bush and climb up a mountain and other family, teachers and friends who would come back from their travels with tales of pyramids, colour and wild adventures. As often as I can I've jumped on a plane, in a car or on a boat and escaped the vibrancy of the big smoke to search for new smells, sounds, sights and friends.
In the long days of 2020, I joined my abstract art team in a class resorted to Zoom. My appetite for painting after such a long time was restored, and it is that now and all of my adventures; the vibrancy of a city, the depth and wonder of the great out doors and the colour and wonder of markets and life, that inspire and influence my painting and build on the lessons learnt from my wondrous art teacher and fellow artist friends.
